Velira has had 3 owners since new. She has been very well looked after throughout and before I bought her she was always put ashore under cover. The first owner, Geoffrey Herrige, looked after her carefully. He sold her in 1987 to a London doctor who kept her till 1990 and who sold her to me. I bought her in Chichester, had her put on a lorry and transported to Croabh Haven to launch her there. I have kept her on a mooring at Dunstaffnage ever since. Since 1990 she has always been stored inside over the winter at Crinan Boatyard. I have full documentation (2 lever arch files) of all work carried out on her since I bought her.
As she was classified at Lloyds until 2007 she was surveyed every 2 years and every 4 years keelbolts and skin fittings etc. were removed and the whole vessel carefully inspected inside and out and sea trials subsequently carried out. All other requirements stipulated by Lloyds surveyors were carried out. Again, details of these surveys are available. She was last surveyed for the 4 year survey in May and June 2007. She has subsequently been surveyed for insurance purposes. The regularity and nature of the surveys on her have ensured that nothing has been left to chance. The first class materials from which she is built give further re-assurance.
She is a very comfortable cruising sloop with good performance and dry, sea kindly abilities. For her size, she is exceptionally roomy both below and in the cockpit. We have cruised her extensively on the West Coast of Scotland and particularly in the Outer Hebrides, including the west side of Lewis and Harris and the Sound of Harris where we spend our family summer holidays.
